Our General English course enables the development of English language speaking, listening, reading and writing skills and knowledge.
The course is designed to improve general proficiency to access higher level courses, English for everyday use, English for travel, English for work purposes or to do casual work in an English speaking country.
Course levels include Elementary, Pre-Intermediate, Intermediate, Upper-Intermediate.
Students who successfully complete the Upper Intermediate level can gain direct entry into ATMC’s English for Academic Purposes (EAP 1&2) program.
Delivery methods include classroom based sessions with course book-based core lessons followed by skills extension lessons. Assessments include weekly Speaking, Listening, Reading and Writing formative and summative assessments.
Our General English course is designed to improve every aspect of your English. Each lesson has clear objectives that contribute to your overall progress and moves you closer to achieving your language goals. With a strong focus on the four core skills of listening, reading, writing and speaking, General English students will find their English improving really quickly.
The course is structured to cover a range of skills required at intermediate levels of English.
GE Elementary: By the end of this level the learner can make simple sentences and reply to simple questions; talk about likes/dislikes, family and routines; order a meal in a restaurant/go shopping and understand and write basic texts.
GE Pre-Intermediate: By the end of this level the learner can talk with confidence (go shopping, book a hotel room); make conversation in English; write and understand simple written texts and understand a wider range of grammar and vocabulary.
GE Intermediate: By the end of this level the learner can take part in routine conversations; write and understand simple written texts; make notes and understand most of the general meaning of lectures, meetings, TV programmes and extract basic information from a written document.
GE Upper – Intermediate: By the end of this level the learner can take part in extended conversations; write and understand most texts, including a simple essay, understand most of a TV programme, presentation or lecture, but not technical or theoretical information.
